We had planned to run in the 5 mile shopping cart race, modeled on the Iditarod dog sled race, but difficulty pulling together a team and procuring a shopping cart left us as spectators. Maybe if we had started planning earlier than the morning of the race... We waited on a street corner with dozens of other people near the alleged starting line, somewhere in Brooklyn... |

...but only one wayward team made an appearence. So we headed across the Williamsburg bridge - Teo and Mike going incognito. |

In a race checkpoint loosely set up in a commandeered school playground on the other side of the bridge we found what seemed like hundreds of fully costumed people, their decorated carts, and general chaos - flying food, confusion about where to go, and people in various states of inebriation... |

...in other words, everyone was having a great time. Some people, like the guy above, found time to stretch as if they were in a serious race, even if they didn't appear to be dressed that way. |

Some costumes were coordinated and kind of high concept... |
| ...while others looked like people just grabbed random funny looking clothes they had. | ![]() |
